About Krewe of BOO!

Krewe of BOO! was founded in 2007, and its first parade rolled the next year as a fundraiser for Hurricane Katrina relief. It was started by “Mr. Mardi Gras” Blaine Kern Sr. After a few years with no Halloween parade, it came back by popular demand in 2013, led by his son Brian Kern, the krewe’s captain and “Chief Spookster” [source]. The 2026 press release says the original parade rolled from 2008 through 2010 [source].

The floats come from Kern Studios. They're 3-D fiberglass and papier-mâché werewolves, ghosts, vampires and other monsters, designed to be kid-friendly [source]. To cut waste, the krewe dropped beads except for light-up ones. Most throws are locally made treats and keepsakes [source]. More than 100,000 people are expected along the route [source]. Shout “Throw me somethin’, Monstah!”
